Comin’ Back to Me

After a great set of gigs in Japan, Jack got some time off to visit some of his old haunts in San Francisco. Here is Jack in front of 2400 Fulton Street 47 years after Jefferson Airplane used it as their headquarters. Below is the JA gang hanging at the old pad. Oh the memories are Comin’ Back to Me! Good Times.

Wood Forum Features Jack’s Acoustic Bass – The Diana Bass

woodforumlogo jacks_diane_acoustic Wood Forum is the monthly newsletter of the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association They have a nice feature on Tom Ribbecke. Tom has been commissioned by Jack to develop and create an acoustic bass guitar in memory of his wife Diana Balfour Casady who passed in 2012. The feature describes how “The Diana Bass” is a truly unique instrument from its design, materials and even its finish. It’s a good read. It will make you want to go out and buy one! Liquid Flurries at McCabe’s 2014-02-09

Yeah man, Liquid Flurries at McCabe’s… awesome review of Ho Tuna’s second night at McCabe’s in Santa Monica. Michael Finkelstein highlights some of the magic on the latest Hot Tuna Tour.

Here’s a snipet of Finkelstein’s review:

On Sunday they proved that it’s not entirely the volume or distortion that makes the rockin’ songs swing, it’s also how the guitar and bass contrast. The key to it seemed to be in Jack’s timely lowest notes, which would rumble beautifully and surge forth to pump the changes up into something huge.

Jack’s Acoustic Bass Guitar – The Diana Bass – Ribbecke Guitar Studio

Jack Casady commissioned renowned master luthier Tom Ribbecke to develop an acoustic bass guitar in tribute to Jack’s wife Diana. Tom collaborated with accomplished bass guitar player Bobby Vega to come up with a unique design that would deliver the rich tone of a double bass but also the bark and bite of the Jack’s Signature Epiphone Bass. Below is a blog interview recorded at the Ribbecke studio in Healdsburg, CA that goes into detail about Jack’s vision, his early influences and his experiments in developing tone and sound in his early bass guitars. It also conveys Jack’s love and devotion to his music and his wife, Diana. Good stuff. Check it out.
