Dave Grohl Rocks the Black Jack

Here’s a great shot of rocker Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) putting the black Jack Casady Signature Epiphone Bass Guitar to the test. Pretty sure it held it’s own. Rock On Dave! We love your work and we’re just a tiny bit jealous of your “rock-n-roll hair!” Oh, those were the days!

Dominic Davis on Tour with Jack White and Epiphone

Our friend Dominic Davis is busy these days. Dominic is about to hit the road with Jack White for shows in Chile, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and the USA. Look for Dominic on tour with his Epiphone Jack Casady bass and if you watch closely, you might even see him in an upcoming episode of the smash ABC hit Nashville. (Photos: James Swanson)

The Diana Bass by Tom Ribbecke

OK, We’ve received a lot of questions from fans recently regarding Jack’s new acoustic bass, The Diana, by Tom Ribbecke. If you were lucky enough to catch Hot Tuna on their west coast swing in early January, you would have caught a glimpse of the new bass. Jack has been playing The Diana in very limited situations, such as the Fillmore Show. This is primarily because he doesn’t want to subject it to airline baggage handlers who are notoriously hard on guitars, just ask any player who has had to travel, ugh. This is no small guitar and it is VERY special to him. So he is very protective of it, as one might imagine, thus the limited usage. With that said, Jack absolutely loves playing the Diana bass. And he would like to acknowledge Tom Ribbecke for his outstanding commitment to this project. “Tom is an outstanding craftsman, but more importantly, he listens and understands the importance of each project. He put his heart and soul into this project. The results are beautiful. Just like it’s inspiration.”

Kevin Johnson, Managing Editor at No Treble, wrote a nice review of the Diana Bass. Here are some of the specs

Our friend, Jim Clash, at Forbes Magazine has a nice review of Jack’s 70th Birthday show at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Before the show, Jim interviewed Capt. Mark Kelly, Astronaut and former shuttle pilot, at the Explorer’s Club. Jack and Jorma sat in on the interview then invited Mark to the Beacon show.

The Beacon Was Electric!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I cannot say enough to express my gratitude to everyone who came out to the Beacon Theater on Saturday 12/13/14. We rocked the place! It was a special night, a special memory, one I will always remember and cherish. And Thanks to all the fans who come out to all our Hot Tuna shows everywhere. You are more like family and friends than fans. Your love and support is overwhelming.

I would also like to thank Jorma, for being a truly great friend and outstanding musical partner. It’s been a wonderful adventure. Here’s to many more years together on this “long strange trip.”

Peace and Love for the New Year!

Jack’s Interview with Jim Clash

Check out Jack’s recent interview with Jim Clash, contributing writer for Forbes Magazine.
In the interview, Jack talks about teaching at the Fur Peace Ranch.

Here’s an excerpt:

Casady: You have to remind them that it is a workshop. In the very first session of a weekend, I run a song through to see who’s doing what, how quick they are. What’s their left-hand technique, right-hand technique – and whether they’re getting decent tone? Do they hear the music and assimilate it and get around the instrument well? Or are they just completely lost? I then match up jobs I give with their abilities.
